Nah. Damnation is easily their worst

Heresy, but I am not really fond of their first couple albums. I'd say that. Or Sorceress.

Also, this is beginning to unlock for me. But I'll never listen to the English version.

PC definitely has some of their best post watershed songs. Eternal rains, moon above sun below, and faith in others are all top tier

The climax ~6:50 into River is so good.

OK this is definetly a grower, pretty much as every post Watershed Opeth record... Excellent record indeed. Sorceress is their least good album

One thing that weirds me out is how with Heritage onwards the artworks stopped having the trademark(?) mysterious vibes and now they reached the complete opposite with Cauda (looks like a tabletop game?) and Sorceress (that one's just plain silly).

dis album gud tho

Initial impression is this is boring as hell. Really wish they'd go back to their screams. When you can write songs as phenomenal as Lotus Eater and Hessian Peel, or Ghosts of Perdition idk why you'd ever do entire albums of clean vox.

there are no moments that stood out to me. nothing i'm like "i can't wait to return to this moment". i'm going to listen again but unless i somehow seriously misjudged this it's looking like another w.e album from them. they've had a pretty weak decade imo

Yeah although I love ‘growl era Opeth’ more than anything music has to offer Gyro is wrong on many levels, he may as well copy/paste dethrasher’s legendary Damnation review by this point.

PC is a little confounding because in a lot of ways it’s their most bland, but half of the songs are very different and unpredictable for them like Eternal Rains, Moon Above, River, and the beautiful Faith in Others

yeah eternal rains is so fucking good. the others you mentioned are pretty decent too but on the whole i find the album pretty dull. i feel the same about this and sorceress tho. idk why they decided in the 2010s to drop one of the things they did better than most of their contemporaries

Cusp of Eternity and Goblin aren’t terrible, but two of their weakest songs to date. Sorceress has some too. Heritage and this are pretty top notch.

This has some of their best material since Heritage.

Next of Kin, Lovelorn Crime, Universal Truth, All Things Must Pass.

Mike’s vocal performance on Lovelorn Crime is just amazing, the keys are just right in the feels as well.

I’m perplexed by your love for that song man, it’s OK but unremarkable. One of the least interesting tracks here.
