Ok am I gonna get lynched for saying this has a chance at being my AOTY. I don't have any 4.5s yet this year and this is edging on that territory.

Yeah, I didn't want to say I heard some FJM on this one too because I think luci would have called me a broken record after saying the same about the Weyes Blood.

I think PureComedy is way more risky and antagonistic as a listen, Tillman is a more charismatic vocalist imo - plus Pure Comedy was nowhere near an AOTY for me

Def a respectable opinion though

I didn't hear the FJM so much in Weyes Blood but honestly he/PC specifically is one of the main things I think of here. Not just in the sound but the overall feel, how grandiose it is. I haven't really dug into the lyrics on this tbh so I'm not sure they really relate thematically (the probably don't) and yeah I guess this is a bit less "risky and antagonistic" but I don't think that's a problem - if anything this will have more staying power than PC for that very reason. At the moment this isn't really what I "want" to be my AOTY but there are a handful of moments here that are working for me in a way little else has this year.

Maybe the hotter take then, this > Titanic Rising

Titanic is a bit more classic and old school, much prefer it.

Also the opener on that one I find more like FJM than anything here.

I'd even rather listen to have you in my wilderness than this and that album was a massive disappointment

Titanic Rising I thought was super classy and really well written but personally none of the songs really moved me a whole ton. Across the board excellence but nothing that made me sit up in my chair. This by contrast has a few moments that feel really classic to me even if it is a tad less consistent. But the length isn't bothering me after several spins now, it actually goes by really fast.
