I mean while it still has pop elements, it’s not straight up pop like this album is. I think expectations of catchiness are pushed to the back burner when an artist shifts to subtler folkier writing

Halfway through the new TS album and I already think this (Lover) is better. We'll see how the next eight tracks go, but I specifically remember being more elated halfway through my first listen of Lover. Nothing so far has caught me the way e.g. Cornelia Street, Paper Rings, or Death By a Thousand Cuts did.
