Actually they are asking for the hate. Because they know it'll rile up the haters and get them talking. Which will mean randos will listen to the album. Worst case scenario, the band racks up Spotify plays. Best case scenario, some of those randos will actually enjoy the album and become fans.
Periphery is well ahead of the game. And all of Cas' valiant "band should quit" 1's are just helping them.

i will fully admit that everyone needs a set of bands towards which they can redirect their negative emotions and frustrations but for me periphery aren't quite boring or bland enough to be a proper punching bag (i'd prefer to go for the classics like imagine dragons)

@sitar if Misha was sincere with his interview about this band being a passion project, not really for income I don’t see why they would want to rile up haters for more publicity/streams.

It's not just a passion project. It's also a marketing vehicle. Who would care about Horizon Devices or Getgood Drums or any of the other million entrepreneurial projects he dabbles in if he wasn't Periphery's guitarist, and who would care about Periphery if they weren't getting publicity?

And just because the band isn't "profitable" per se doesn't mean he's going to turn down any revenue it does brings in.

Okay the band can be used for marketing sure. What about the other members who don’t promote their side gigs? Would this only apply to Misha and Matt? I’m sure the dudes have side hustles, so I’m sure this band isn’t THAT much of a priority that they took a whole year off.

I’m listening to Reptile right now
Like the vox are fine but man I fuckin hate the lack of interesting guitar work
7 minutes of boring overused djent patterns followed by a mediocre build-up into a done to death breakdown
What exactly do people love about this

Wait, what are you arguing? That the knee jerk haterism isn't publicity and that publicity isn't good for business?

I sat through a 17 minute track and heard 2 riffs that have been done better long before this
Not looking forward to the rest of this but here we go

You’re saying the publicity is a marketing machine, and I’m saying that it probably only applies to half the band, which is why riling up haters for a band in their situation doesn’t make sense to me

Are you seriously so low on actual arguments to defend this albums legitimacy that youre just pulling the "lol h8rs da moar u h8 da moar da mones lelz" card

As performers and as public figures, publicity is their friend. And sure, some people might be triggered by the "suck my balls" or Hail Stan. Some people might be amused. Most people will probably ignore it and appreciate the album on its terms. But the fact is they got all those people interested in this for different reasons. And yeah, even the non Misha, Matt, Nolly members have side hustles. They're spokespersons for various companies provide lessons and clinics and so on. Their visibility is what makes most of that lucrative.

And look at Jester up there. He's hating every second of the experience, but he's still listening to the album. He's still checking in every once in a while to tell us how he feels. Keeping the thread alive. They're drops in the bucket, but every drop counts.

No, he's listening to it once so you don't just end up saying that he didn't give it a fair shake if he dares to express an opinion contrary to yours.

Okay but what is your point? Like do you think we should feel bad or aomething that were giving an album we dont like attention? That giving it attention makes it good?
Like what are you on

Yeah, but why would he care if it wasn't Periphery? I mean, how many bands do people normally sit through entire albums just so that they can talk shit on a thread? Most people would be like, "fuck it" after 30 seconds and move on with their lives. Why is Periphery different?

There's no way in fuck shit that this isn't terrible.
