Cherries? Dang, I've never even heard of that, but I'd give it a try just to see what it's like.

There's a pizza place around here where Hawaiian pizza, besides the usuals ham and pineapple, has cherries; it's pretty nice.

jfc this thread.

It's perfectly okay to not enjoy any part of Devin's music. But some of the statements here are the worst takes I've ever read on Sput.

Also to weigh in on the objectivity in music thing. It does exist in music, as with all things objectivity is the point at which a subjective statement meets the arbitrary standard for shared subjective agreement. This arbitrary standard varies between people, some people are more picky than others. It's like how people say the sky is blue is an objective statement, it's only objective because enough people subjectively view it as blue. If we were all colourblind the sky might objectively be middling grey.

Devin is an objectively talented vocalist. He meets all the generally agreed upon requirements to be considered good at singing, whether you like the style is a different question.

Pretty average sounding voice to me dude and I’m not colourblind - science hath stated the sky IS blue, it’s not subjective at all

I said it was technically fine but hey, most studio vocalists and backing singers are technically fine. He’s that sort of level for me. Lacking in tone and personality for lead vocals

Prob why he’s obsessed with backing vocals uh huh huh

Jezus christ I'm almost tempted to do so. I don't look at this thread for about 18 hours and it has turned from a shit show to downright fubar. GJ sput. Still don't get why all you haters keep hanging around kicking at this. Go listen to something fun and keep your life a little on the positive side, it might do you some good.

Science is still subject to the philosophical concepts that state it's impossible for anyone to truly experience anything objectively. You can't escape your own perception. The measurement helps clarify the objectivity that the sky is blue (even though it isn't always), but it's still got the basis in a subjective statement everyone agrees upon. Even those measurements are still only interpreted subjectively. Everyone agrees that those subjective perceptions are correct however, so they become objective. Objectivity is just degrees of subjectivity, it's a lot closer in music than it is in science, but the basis is the same.

It's a whole philosophical concept, I wasn't planning on going into the finer details because we'd be here all day.

And it's just weird that you've been here for like 20 pages trashing him if it's just "not for you."

Unless you're just baiting Sitarhero which is looking more and more likely lol.

Album has a 3.8 average and somehow most comments are from people who have 1.0-2.0 ratings. Can we actually talk about the album for once instead of trashing devy?

Lets. I find that weirdly, 'Sprite' is growing on me. It's weird how much perspective changes over a couple of listens. I love Evermore more and more (the instrumentation on the 'Hey my dear...' part in particular is fantastic) and I like Hear Me a little less than the first few listens.

I'm on my third or fourth listen now and I'm still struggling to work out which track I like most. I still think Sprite is probably the weakest.

I know people don't dig Spirits Will Collide for being too much like modern Dev, but I just think it continues the upward trend of him doing "Epicloud style stuff but not bad this time." Between that track and Sky Blue he's blown Epicloud out of the water.

Though a Facebook group I'm on still insists Epicloud is his best album. I die a little every time I see that opinion.
