Isaac Brock produced the first album, so it has some Modest Mouse vibes. I don't hear them being all that similar though, Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug both have extremely distinctive voices and neither sounds like Isaac.
Apologies to the Queen Mary is one of the best indie rock albums of all time. BTW, when I mentioned them in respect to The Armed I was talking about Dan Boeckner's voice, not Spencer's. Dan sings on Modern World, Spencer sings on Grounds for Divorce, for an example of their different singing styles.
I'd say Spencer is closer to Isaac Brock.
