If they just made like 35 minutes of tech riffs and didn't try to ~disassemble the captain's chair~ every track I'd prob dig their new sound but alas

Nah that track is killer. I actually don't incredibly love Living Waves like others seem to.

Easily the least interesting song here ya (Living waves, not Sprials)

The second half > first, but that doesn't mean the first half is bad. It's getting a bit of a bad rep honestly, not nearly as week as people say.

What? No. Living Waves is fantastic. I'd pick the intro, if that counts.

I like this album quite a bit, but I definitely agree with the general sentiment of your comment. It does often feel like they're trying to do a bit too much on every single song, disrupting the pacing and cohesion in the process.

I find Spiritual Migration to be considerably more cohesive than this.

Maybe I'm crazy.

Quite possibly, I think this is much more restrained than Spiritual. For better or worse Spiritual is just crazy.

I love more Spiritual Migration too, the first part is the reason why.

IMO Prison Skin is great, Spirals is good, No Faced Mindless has an amazing second half, Living Waves is good/great

Part of the appeal of Spiritual is just how completely unrestrained it is. It's incredibly creative in a lot of what it does, but its disregard to tradition sometimes lends it to just losing track of any kind of direction. You get stunning technicality but not tired together well.

Like I said, this coming from a guy that has Spiritual as one of his all-time favorite albums. There is critique to be had, sure, but it's far from a bad album.

^ that's exactly right. Which is why I thought the complaint that they sold out was total BS. It's more of the opposite, they relied more on raw emotions, which makes it more divisive.

Spiritual is all over the place... Don't get me wrong, I'd never listened to it, I've given it plenty of spins the last couple of weeks, and there're so many great things going on, but all at once and it kinda loses you. Aathma is more concise.
