"Mess isn't an awesome vocalist, or lyricist agreed, but for everytime he fucks it up (S/T, DBM2, all Tillian era albums) there are thoSe moments when he gets his shit together and fucking kills it, finally doing what he should have done all along. ..
like happiness"
Are you saying, by "killing it", him not being present?

"mess is fine, it's tillian who's a bad writer tbh"
Agreed 100% Dance Gavin Dance really took a step back in quality when he joined.

"no, you're very very very wrong"
Judging by your ratings of Dance Gavin Dance's albums, I can tell that we are going to disagree on their entire discography.

I still think he's the weakest vocalist DGD has had so far. Granted he's being compared to gods like Kurt and Jonny, but he just lacks a certain vocal depth. He expanded on that for sure on this album but it still doesnt quite hit the mark here. Not saying he's a bad vocalist btw.

Kurt was the worse in my opinion, but I'm a huge fan of his so I do not think he's a bad singer. I mean LIVE Tillian puts Kurt and Jonny to shame, but if we're talking strictly studio Tillian=Kurt and Jonny is miles ahead regards to both range, power and just. .. tone maybe is the word I'm looking for? If they were all Singing the exact same note the same way Jonny just sounds the nicest.
This is the first time I've thoroughly enjoyed Tillians voice. I tolerated it in Acceptance Speech and skipped the last album all together because it just sounded like more of the same.
Here he's doing more lower. . raspy sounding stuff and it makes the highs work. Instead of just super sugary sweet the woke album

After Spending some more time with this album, it's grown on me. I think that after I got over my initial disappointment, and just took the album as is, I enjoyed it much more. Think I'll bump it to a 4. It's about on the level with the other Tilian era albums. I still wist Flossie Dickie Bounce and Chocolate Jackalope were axed from this album though.

I can understand people saying that Craig is better than Kurt for just the vocals aspect, but I think its rather ridiculous to say that Craig was better in the studio overall. While Kurt was with Dance Gavin Dance, they got really creative and their song writing was pristine(especially in Happiness). When Craig was with Dance Gavin Dance, all they did was write variations of Downtown Battle Mountain.
I do agree with you Cliiint on Tillian's vocals in this album, he took a big step forward. I just hope his song writing can improve in future albums.

they just flat out suck when it comes to their poppier stuff. I think they really unlock their potential when their on their heavier side

Agree to disagree on that. They can pull of the poppy stuff, they just need a little edge to keep it from being too samey.
