I feel like if he just cut out some of the lol tracks and plugged in some of the better demos, the album would be an easy 4.5
I'd hard agree, but also, I've felt that way every release since Epicloud so it's no real surprise to me. I'd trade Spirits and Sprite for Gulag and Summer in an instant, but as is it's still the strongest tracklist he's had in years

Empath was fantastic. way less all over the place than I was expecting, I really liked every track.
Singularity could have had some parts shortened but the bigger moments were exceptional.
and fuck, that Stormbending callback in Requiem

Turned this off when I got to 'Higher'. Stormbending is awesome, but most songs here bore or annoy me

It is very good, just not special by Devy's standards

It's probs his safest release but Stormbending is a top 5 Project song

Yeah this isn't doing a damn thing for me either. Though I'd say it's a little better than Empath.

Have a, big soft spot for this, bought the record of it when it came out on a whim and it basically got me interested in Devy again. Album sounds huge and is catchy af. Version of Truth here it better too imo

The wall of sound is here too tho
Listening to them both back to back, yeah, I may have spoken too soon there. Old version is... idk crunchier and the faster tempo suits it better

my pre-transition self is immortalized in the thumbnail of one of the transcendence tour documentary videos. i'm one of the most featured audience members in it too - so surreal. it's like a time capsule now. i will never look like that again but there it is featured in a fucking devin townsend doc video. that was almost five years ago
best concert i've ever been to. ended up in the front row somehow after having an awful panic attack only an hour before thinking i wouldn't make it to the show. devin townsend pours his heart and soul into his music and it shows. beautiful human being and a beautiful record, even if he's not at his "peak" here it's still so honest and so him.
