I've only listened to Act IV besides, but all the lyric sheets I read and all those websites that compile the story together or whatever, really and genuinely confirm my hate for it. It's a minor gripe for what is a pleasurable listening experience

I mean just to start off with its literally not a fantasy story so you're already off of the genre I kinda zoned out after that one

"Nonsense, genre rating is fine as long as not taken to ridiculous extremes (rating every metal album 1/5 without even listening etc)
It's best to not totally rule out a genre for life anyway, many of the greatest albums transcend genre boundaries"
This is so much! I'm not a huge fan of Indie/Electronic genres too much but I've found some of my favorite bands of all time like Massive Attack, Modest Mouse, etc. I may not like the genres all that much but I'm not going to completely write them off because you can find some fantastic albums out there. Truly yes, if you go into something already hating I can understand seeing that as pointless but most people try stuff we don't often like expecting to find some gems from time to time. Hell even certain bands I don't really like have surprised me with good albums from time to time. If I don't like said band and they made another bad album that I listened to, I just don't rate it if it has been there like 5th album I haven't liked by them.

anyone suggesting albums should be rated on any basis other than how much you enjoy them is an abject bozosaurus rex who should stop using the internet

This album is such a journey man. I'm so glad I now have an easy way to pass 1hr15min with the knowledge that the time will fly by and I wont be bored.

TooManyFriends- By genre rating I mean a listener goes into trying an album knowing there will most likely be a rating score ceiling due to them not particularly enjoying that genre in the past. I don't see why people should ignore genres they don't like if there is a lot of interest about a new release on the site - occasionally something will be worth taking that sort of chance on

I feel like you should prepare for a big leap in quality between Acts III and IV, but others don't necessarily agree.

III and IV are the worst and best Acts respectively imo so I'd agree with that

Massive downgrade in quality from III to IV agreed

looking forward to checking them, pretty impressed with Act I

I couldn't get enough of III when it came out, and I couldn't get enough of IV when it came out either. If IV released sooner instead of TCS/Migrant though I probably wouldn't have liked it as much. GGYG was the *only* weak spot in III imo

I must be one of the few that enjoyed Act I & II the least. Act II has a lot of good stuff going for it, but too many things such as the mediocre production and the whiny vocals Casey had back then bring it down for me. Act III was a major step up in terms of consistency.

The only parts of Act I I go back for are His Hands Matched His Tongue and TP&P. Or if I listen through it all from the beginning. It's mostly okay

agreed with Whispered regarding Act II. It's got some of their best stuff, but a lot of it feels poorly produced and Casey's vox on there are the weakest they've been in his whole career
disagree on Act I though; I think it's probably their most underrated record

Agreed with ashcrash9 on Act 2 and Act 1. Act 1 actually sounds a lot better than Act 2, vocally and production-wise. I do think Act 2 has some of the best songs out of the first 3 acts though. I find Act 3 to be a bit too mid-tempo and hard to listen through without my attention drifting away.
