Maudlin sort of blended with this project ending with Dowsing imo. After that Kayo Dot really became something of it's own sonically. I hope they stay with the style of Coffins and this for future releases, it's a really unique direction.

Coffins is prob my fave album after Choirs of course. The vocal lines are just so damn catchy.

I love the songwriting on Coffins but the production doesn't allow enough clarity overall, or volume on the guitars with songs like Assassination of Adam and Offramp Cycle especially. Live versions have louder, more delayed guitars and punchier drums.

Interesting discussion these last few pages. I've had this LP and Coffins unopened sitting on my shelf for months. It might be time to have a listen.

Got to see Kayo Dot a few weeks back for the first time. They only played 4 or 5 songs unfortunately. Pallbearer was alright, but Tobey's music is way more interesting and translated really well live even though they were only a 3 piece.

Well this was one of the most interesting listens I've encountered in a very long time. How have I slept on this?
The vibes are fantastic, it's like Le Cassette spliced with free jazz channeling ELP. Synthwavey vibes baked in some seriously avant-garde composition.
Really overlooked KD before, but now I'm hooked

I remember hearing maudlin of the Well and Choirs of the Eye and then listening to this... boy was I surprised. I particularly love Amalia's Theme, I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like it.

Not sure exactly, but I think their label, The Flenser, has a lot of similar bands so you should check those out. Youtube also recommends Black Wing right after Magnetism, and they sound somewhat similar.

it's the internet age we should have this figured out by now but the closest we get to accurate recs is last.fm's recommendations (very inaccurate) and asking specific people 'in-the-know' i.e. close fans of the band that have their sound described down to a t (time consuming, crapshoot at best)

AnimalsAsSummit recommended me Clan of Xymox- Medusa and Susumu Hirasawa - Siren when I asked him for something similar to this and the new Ulver.
