i love fates......period
but the classic records by Queensryche and even Dream Theater are superior to anything this band has ever done

to be fair DT and queensryche are about the worst popular prog metal bands out there so...

This album is well executed but I really struggle to hear its soul and identity. The shorter tracks like Seven Stars are insipid in my opinion, and the epics aren't that incredible in my eyes. It's cool when an album gets so much love by a group of people and I wish I could join you but I genuinely don't hear the album you guys are listening too :[ The songs I can dig the most are From the Rooftops and The Ghosts of Home. The former for the chorus hook, the latter for that melancholic section after 7:30 (though I struggle a bit with the rest of the song). I also like the quieter parts of The Light and Shades of Things.

Do you like other FW albums better Sab or is it the band in general you don't get?

"Do you like other FW albums better Sab or is it the band in general you don't get?"
I usually like this band, early to mid to more current, though I rarely listen to them. It's this album in particular, really. The three "main" songs (Rooftops, Light and Shade, Ghosts) have definitely some quality to offer, but the shorter rockers make me scratch my head, I just find them generic catchy metal to a degree.
"c'mon Sabs, digestion...."
In 2016 I've said "Heard this a couple of times in the past days, it's great but maybe a little too big on choruses, songs like Seven Stars can get a bit annoying. Will check again". It's just an album that didn't grew at all on me, can't help it.

In their prime (i.e. The band's best albums) :
DT> FW> Ryche
Overall :
FW> DT> Ryche
Granted I've only heard Ryche properly until hear in the now frontier

everything after that is like, even worse
i dont even like the toddryche records that willie gave a 6 out of 5 to

FW are the most consistent of three but for me Queensryche has by far the best classics. For the record Mindcrime is 3rd best for me. Toddryche is far from the classics but Condition Human is mostly solid, it has a few weak moments but also a few cool bonus cuts like Mercury Rising. I'd 3.25 if I could.
"i dont even like the toddryche records that willie gave a 6 out of 5 to"
Because it's nothing that special, it's like a 2.8 for me.

Amen dude. Still sounds fresh when I listen to it. Matheos really took his time with this one

Exactly. Not the biggest Fates Warning fan on here but this is easily one of my favorite albums of theirs. Sometimes I get those Gilmour vibes from Matheos, where he plays just the necessary amount of notes needed to create an amazing phrase.

Matheos' guitar playing has always been focused compared to most prog guitarists, which is why it took me longer to appreciate him. His phrasing is amazing like you said. A genius no doubt

Aside from Matheos' playing, Alder is one of the greatest singers in metal.
