Centipede is incredibly underrated though it doesn't need to be so long

"Centipede is incredibly underrated though it doesn't need to be so long"
Centipede is arguably my favorite AnCo so yes. "Monkey Riches" is the best song by them. Very underrated album. I never understood the hate for that album. It sounds like Strawberry Jam if you overloaded it with electronics, which in my opinion, is a great move. It was abrasive, but it paid off. This is as slick as a baby's bottom, as to go in one ear and out the other. Many say because you like Centipede you should like this but to me they're almost polar opposites
"FloriDada," "The Burglars," and "Golden Gal" rule but you won't find anything else that approaches those songs on here. This should've been an EP with those songs and "Peacemaker" at the end and then it would be a good EP. There's not much here other than Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, part 2.

Recycling sounds like a lot of songs on the album so if you like that one it's safe to assume you like the whole thing. Spilling Guts reminds me of the Rugrats though and not in a good way

Vertical is horrible. Neat idea and flow, but the parking lot part is awful. I hate how that is the centerpiece of the song that is repeated umpteen times. I feel the real stinker is Hocus Pocus though, but Vertical is number 2 on the stinker list

The thing that irritates me most about Vertical is that it has fantastic verses, with such a sense of ascension to them. They talk of towers and mountains and diamonds in the sky, and that psychedelic feeling of floating upwards out of your body. The production really adds to the sense that everything is drifting skyward. The pre-chorus is sublime, and then...
"My feet can't cross the parking lot, the parking lot is way too hot."
Not only is it tuneless and banal, it brings the whole sense of flight and magic and psychedelia screaming back down to the earth, and to a fucking parking lot at that. All that soaring Peter Pan wonder becomes hot tarmac. Talk about a goddamn anticlimax.

if I have to intellectualise a song that much to enjoy it I'd prob rather just listen to something else

three things are constant- death, taxes and plane over-intellectualizing music

I think I've always enjoyed music on a surface level, or at the least been very intrigued by it, before I go analysing the shit out of it. Vertical doesn't strike me as an enigma filled with delicious secrets I need to tease out. It strikes me as a failure of a song that doesn't sound very good. As such, I have very little incentive to devote an afternoon to poring over its subtleties and hidden meanings. Even if I did, I don't think any heightened level of appreciation for its theme or message is going to make that chorus sound like anything other than trash to my ears.

There are other songs on this album (not even classics by AnCo standards) that take half as much effort and yield twice the reward
