That being said, the highs of this album are indeed really high. It's a shame the album seems to be as rushed as the release event.

BTW, that Pitchfork review.... even though their grade is exactly same as mine (4.5/5=9/10) its.... its... so omfg. I'm surprised that it didn't end with: "And if Kanye was actually in here as I'm writing, I would deepthroat his Godly cock"

what? their review was excellent: it examined the cultural impact behind kanye's album releases and talked about how it slots into his discography. i didn't think it was overly hyperbolic at all tbh

here's what i want you to do- go roll a fat blunt, chill on a big couch or comfy chair, and just think, think about how you can become less of a reactionary person in this OneLife, learn how to consider the motives and thoughts of others before opening your mouth in the future, maybe even re-listen to this album after this period of contemplation, once you have gone through this please let me know, we can begin a new productive dialogue at that point

says the dude who misconstrued my comment seemingly for the sake of arguing with me lol. and before you say i misconstrued yours, how does this "if youre suggesting i have even visited pitchfork at any point in the last 4 years you are mistaken. i form my own opinions" not come across as pompous?

Hmm... their review talked about the album for about 3 of the 8 paragraphs of the review. The rest was "cultural impact" but only to say that Ye is a near-deity, and is literally the Picasso/St. Paul of our time. Like... Kanye THINKS that (and he is probably the dopest guy in the mainstream in the last 15 years or so) but Pitchfork's review makes it seem like they actually BELIEVE that.

abond: yeah idk, i didn't get that from the review at all. i think the 9 wasn't justified super well, but it was a good thinkpiece on the culture and of mad geniuses (this isn't to say that they actually think he's the picaso of our time - the album title alludes to that, hence them addressing it

It's a great review. The writing is of a high quality. If you disagree with how seriously they examine the album (i.e. you think it's pretentious) that's another matter really.

im not done reading this but i agree it seems the cultural reaction to kanye's work including this pitchfork review seems to be increasingly concerned with his persona than the work, which is silly

i dont think you can ever completely separate the persona from the art but i think its importance needs to be negated here
