think this was the first Boris album i loved - had heard Flood and Heavy Rocks (both of which i now prefer) and Akuma, but the energy and raw tones here did more for me than the riffs on Heavy Rocks and the closer was the first time Boris really clicked as a drone act. then i heard Feedbacker and realised this was just a gateway

> which Pitchfork gave an 8.7 BNM.

*shrugs*

I'll definitely make sure to check Heavy Rocks soon then, coming back to Feedbacker I can definitely appreciate the MASSIVE spaciousness of it more but it definitely seems a little contingent on the headspace as well as having something better than barely serviceable laptop speakers lmao

I don’t think pitchfork giving it a BNM per se is what makes it the most “entry-level” but I think it gave them a boost across the aisle (this was arcade funeral/clap your hands say yeah-era pitchfork) and is emblematic of its appeal (they were even less likely than these days to do that with an album by a metal band)

The Boris gig I went to last year was a fukken sauna. Atsuo threw bottles of water in the crowd, caught myself one.

Boris is the best!! And this is probably one of their best and most complete albums, especially the extended vinyl version. I like it more than Heavy Rocks and Akuma no Uta although those are both fantastic too
