Ppls like to hate on the cplay, but damn it all if this, Rush of Blood, and Viva La Vida aren't all really fantastic pop rock albums

Honestly I like all of their albums, but yeah those three are special

Yes this album is one of those special ones. It just has to be 5.0d.
I'm a big fan of X&Y too, don't really get all the dislike for that one.

love the opener on this

X&Y is a mess and has a lot of weak points
the opener here is super nice yeah

i wonder what coldplay's legacy would be if this was their only album

Haha, a string of average and sub-average albums later on in a career can truly change one's judgement of earlier works. I know the feeling.
What is your fave X&Y track Pangea? Let's focus on the positive stuff!

i haven't heard x&y in a looong time but White Shadows i think. What is yours?
|

Album Rating: 4.5
That is a good question. The album is very samey, but I actually love all of them haha, so that's obviously not a problem to me. Either Square One, White Shadows, t/t, or Twisted Logic. Or one of the others hahaha no I can't choose...

i love the t/t as well, it has one of their best chorusus
|

Album Rating: 4.5
Yes the t/t chorus is so cool. I love how their approach is so soft-ish, poppy rock on that album. A bit spacey too. I don't know. Perhaps in saying this I get why people would dislike that direction too though.
What about it doesn't work for you as well as their approach on Parachutes, Rush of Blood (and Viva)?

I think it's mostly just bloated and i remember that it has a lot more weaker songs compared to their other albums from that era (songs like what if, a message & twisted logic (altough i see you do dig that one)). I really doesn't help that it is quite long too.
The spacey atmosphere is cool but i feel like they have done that better in some tracks in rush of blood. parachutes is generally more cute and lovely that makes it more pleasant for me. And viva la vida is just a lot more adventurous
athough then again i haven't heard this in years so maybe i feel different on relisten. i used to love this one back in the day too when coldplay was my fave band

i remember getting into coldplay after my james blunt phase aged 10 and thinking i'd never look back. everything in its right place.

Coldplay was the first band i got into after hearing viva la vida on the radio when i was like 12/13 (i didn't giva a crap about music before). they were my favourite band for the next following years and i heard each of their albums up to (and including) mylo xyloto countless times

I've always had a soft spot for them growing up. Stuck with them all the way to Mylo Xyloto. Lost interest in their newest output after that but their first five will always be dear to me (from the 'OHMYGOSH best album ever'-level of Parachutes to the 'this is still really cool'-level of Xyloto).

"Talk" and "The Hardest Part" are the only bits I come back to, but there's plenty of good stuff from that album. Still, it's one of their weakest for me, it's their least ambitious and you can really tell they didn't have a clear direction (I'd argue all their other albums do, no matter how disjointed)
