Yeah, the new Rush is enjoyable (hence my 3, which means GOOD), but not innovative or exceptional in the slightest. And yeah, The Seer warrants a 5 for me. It's all I wanted from the band at this point in time and succeeded every expectation I had, and not many albums do that.

I've never heard Swans before but plan on checking this out. Is this a good starting point for the band?

Both sites has their faults but CA is definitely nowhere near a 4.3 as it is here, lol.

Yeah, i love both sites. The average rating would be lower if we had a 0.5 here, but I'm glad we don't.

I still don't know what rating to give it.

It's a demented album, very atmospheric and intense, but there are many times where it feels like it's

dragging for the sake of doing so.

It really don't think it needed to be so long, theres a difference between following your artistic

integrity and wanking.

Gira and wanking...does not compute. Gira and Co ride where the sound takes them. As mentioned in

interviews, the songs debuted as acoustic demo tracks on the handmade live album (Piece of the Sky,

Mother of the World, and Lunacy for example) are visibly much more structured and to the point. But

songs like The Seer, The Apostate, Avatar, etc, were developed on the road or in the rehearsal room

(additions even made while recording) and there was, as I believe said, no structured thought or plan

to how the songs were to progress. In fact, Gira says that for those tracks he would only initially

have a few chord ideas, but it would all come to life as they just played it. It was all what they

felt was right and where the sound took them. They play by feeling and intuition.

does this have a huge country influence like My Father?

A bit of country influence on a few tracks (The Wolf/The Daughter Brings The Water/A Piece of the

Sky). Then there's "Song for a Warrior", which is a glorious full on country song.
