I've only listened to bits and pieces of those 70's prog albums, most of what I grew up with was modern prog. I've been trying to get into the classics, but I might've been poisoned by the modern ones

Well I respect your opinion and I can completely understand where you're coming from, mate. When all you've listened to are the bands they've influenced, that becomes home and because they incorporate styles from the 70's, you get used to hearing it, but in a certain way. Another issue I have are the vocals. They all sound too samey samey and I don't like that style of vocals, bar Pink Floyd. The modern prog bands you listed above have much more subtle voices and sometimes beautiful voices that I think have more variation. Go ahead and shoot me down, but I think led Zeppelin and Guns n roses are hugely overrated. I think of GnR as how people see BMTH now. Popular, but nothing special apart from the fanboys and girls

Led Zeppelin are overrated but still amazing, I also can't stand the singing in most classic prog (can you say RUSH) and
I'm always just gravitating toward the newer prog for a lot of the same reasons. I recently tried to get into classic
prog by jamming Floyd's first four or five albums, which wasn't very encouraging because they were pretty underwhelming

Well, I think at this point there's no point in debating, because it all comes down to opinions, and no one is rigther than another I guess. (Also, yeah dude GnR are so bad)

Not gonna lie Talons, but we agree on enough to be brothers.
There are more surprises to be heard from modern prog, like that Gazpacho album this year

yeah, you're right Onirium, but it's still nice to see another person take on things.

If new Opeth is as good as this I'll be overjoyed

It might be of the same calibre, but it won't replicate the atmosphere of this, which is amazing

Oh of course not I just meant 4.3/4.4 level like this is. I really hope they follow this up though at some point

I really hope they follow this up[2]
And I wuld hope for it to be much more twisted, like actual Scott Walker level

3.7 for me. I can see that happening. The odds of them doing a follow up for this seems as likely as PT getting back together. They have kinda hinted it in interviews though

I'd much rather get more this than PT. Their inspiration was dwindling, it was pretty obvious even though I love FOABP

The hiatus will do them good, if they ever return. This has the potential to be much better than anything PT have ever done, so I'm game too. i don't think it'll happen til Akerfeldt is done with PC touring, if it does happen

Yeah that'd be perfect, maybe after some rest too. Recharge his batteries after touring then get into some atmospheric shit after all the Opeth stuff and give us more SC hopefully

That only sounds feasible at like early 2016/late 2015. I get the feeling Opeth may take a break too at the rate they're going, which makes this all the more likely

When Wilson won't have inspiration anymore for his solo career he'll probably come back to PT and SC and probably No-Man, but I don't know. Anyway, his solo career is some of the most solid stuff he's done in years (along with this), so I guess I could wait a little more for his other projects

Plus at least half of PT play on his solo stuff and it's not even that different from PT so it doesn't really matter to me. And yeah like you said they're great albums too

Errrrrmm.... Nah. Maybe I'm just sick of the classic prog rock sound or something. he'll probably release another solo album

Yeah, actually he says he's going to be recording for his next album during the summer
