Honestly I don't think there even are gateway bands anymore. Music is so heavily distributed/shared these days that everyone is exposed to all within the spectrum as soon as they learn how to use the internet

Nah dudes At The Gates and Bathory are not gateway bands. Im talking the album you give to somebody who never listened to metal before at all. The guy/girl who only has listened to radio rock or whatever. The Black Album is what you give them because it has some radio rock in it but still has a little substance. Then they go into Metallica's older shit, then the Big 4, then it spirals from there and THEN they are ready for ATG and what not. Dont question the formula. It worked on millions already.

Remission is still their best album, non of The Hunter songs can replace hits like March of the fire ants, Where strides the behemoth, Mother puncher etc...
It's just my opinion.

Yeah idk, people just like to hate on it cuz it isn't a concept album like what they usually do, is more accessible, and is less complex. That must make it bad, right? They forget that it's just plain enjoyable - fuck the details.
