I AM starting to understand the hate though. This album seems to focus more on atmosphere than any other aspect (See: To Drown, and almost all of Black Lake), which is why i can now see why people would be calling this "boring". The raw production definitely contributes to that, too. Some of these songs sound like demos in comparison to some of the tracks off of AATG.
