Without a doubt one of the most iconic vocal performances of all time. Marc sounds like an actual demon here.

This is deceptively heavy and the vocals are fittingly demonic. I think the symphonic elements must be confusing you.

Yeah, this stuff is brilliant - a rare example of keyboards not drowning the music in smelly cheese

Well I've decided that it eventually is definitely not a 2.5

Do they have anything as good as this? Which one should I check next?

Spiritual Migration would be my pick. I actually prefer that one over this but I think a lot of people will disagree with me there. It's one amazing album for sure though.

I will listen to it this evening. If it's as "accessible" as Core, I won't need many listens to fully appreciate it.

The virtuosity takes a big flight on SM. I fell in love with it at first listen, so I guess it's as accessible as tech/prog-death is ever going to be.

This is very much in the prog-death metal camp. They become more technical death over time but never lose sight of their core identity. They're on record as wanting to always maintain their distinctive guitar tones through each album.

Pikazilla's not gonna like SM cause he STOINKS worse than the smelly keyboard cheese, and that is not an easy feet

This is by far my favourite, wasn’t a fan of the direction they took after this one... (although I’m more than happy to revisit at some point).

He obviously doesn't always mind keyboard shenanigans if he's got a 4.5 on this.

I think they are overall really consistently great tbh, but Aathma took me the longest to get into.
