1 thing i really like about "the resistance" is the ending cuz well look here

a) it turns the layer of synth pads (which already sound awesome) gradually into tremolo'ing strings which sets it up PERFECTLY for the "relief" of "over" (which of course, has strings in its beginning)

b) as the synths gradually get more tense sounding / start turning into strings so do his lyrics sort of match the mood in a way that's really impressive and effective. like as soon as the backing instrumental becomes less calm/subdued and more "unsure"-sounding his lyrics start doing so too like when he says "half the time i got it right i probably guessed" and like "will i blow all of this money" so it works SO WELL

i also love the production

Yeah, The Resistance really is gorgeous. Drake's R&B songs sounds so amazing chopped and screwed with 40s lush, atmospheric production.

i have to wonder how a solely 40+drake, all pretty ambient stuff, album would work out. definitely fucking awesome, wish they would do that

so basically all the highlights of this album have nothing to do with Drake himself

No one ever said that, lol

@robertsona: That would be amaaazing. I still wish Drake made that only R&B mixtape. He says it's still on the shelf but I assume it's coming out around the same time that Detox will.

you basically did when you said "While he's not a technically talented rapper or singer, he makes up for it with an eye for rfantastic production".

Uhhh, yeah that was a quote I made forever ago that you took out half of. That's the worst case of taking things out of context I've seen. But technically talented means he isn't pulling hard rhyme schemes and he isn't the best singer. He's still a great rapper in the sense that he can pull subtle wordplay, create amazing subtext with his lyrics, make them really personal and his singing is fantastic in the sense that he's basically mastered making great melodies.

lol

Drake is kind of an artist where it's easier to understand him if you listen to him in order to where he started his style. It's crazy to see him evolve through So Far Gone, then Thank Me Later, then Take Care.
