probably gonna give this one the Crystal Castles treatment as vaguely unsavoury bangers made by people I don't give a shit about

YWGWYW would be a lot harder to come to terms with if it was good, but fortunately it is not and i am spared the trouble

i mean the instrumentation on it is by far the best part and the vocals are the worst part so I guess maybe the band could do some good stuff without alexis but idk to what extent he was involved with which aspects of the album

Couldn't agree any less Lex was a huge part of daughters, especially live and his vocal style fit them perfectly. You can't replace that. It wouldn't work. How you replace 'ocean song' with someone else, you just can't. Its not the same. Also lyrically. Ithink they just disband at this point especially if they all knew how bad he was and let it ride.

Johnny [2] but YWGWYW included

Deez [2]

As much of an irredeemable scumbag as Alexis is, he is to Daughters what Yow is to Jesus Lizard. Can’t imagine the band without him. And anyway, probably best if Daughters just calls it quits after this.

Naw, Alexis was a big part of this bands success. They could try to Cult Leader it but I don't think that would be wise or sustainable for them. Plus Jon Parkins case was a bit more ambiguous and wasn't coming from one of the biggest names in the scene. We know a lot more about this situation.

idk to me personally the strong sense of tension and dissonance in songs like Long Road No Turns comes almost entirely from the instrumental, Alexis doesn’t add much for me. and that one is my favourite song of theirs. not denying that he added a lot to their sound but I think they could retain its essence without him

yeah, Alexis on YWGWYW is light years away from David Yow and almost always the least compelling or even most detractive part of the band. did a stellar job on here and his solo record though

Agree to disagree I supposed. I’m not saying Marshall = Yow in a vacuum, but his strained vocal performance is integral to YWGWYW’s disquietude. Concur that his chops on this album are “superior,” though, for sure.
