Honestly I have no idea why the rating for this one isn’t higher given that Sput average in the 00s tend to be higher than now. Maybe there’s enough lingering anti hype from old ratings when all the BM purists were annoyed at this? Because I agree this ought to have at least a 4.2, or at the very minimum a 4.1 alongside Kodama sun Ecailles. I’m kind of baffled by the Spiritual Instinct rating since the reception to that seemed fairly mixed.

I think people were just butthurt that this had post-rock and shoegaze influences and it wasn't raw black metal.
Then Ecailles came which was on another level, so I guess that feeling settled down.

See for me this is just some of the most transcendent and elementally evocative music I’ve heard. Other Alcest is amazing too ofc but Neige will almost certainly never top this for me. Prob should 5 it tbh.

A little samey and occasionally corny, but this is superb. I can easily see bm fans rejecting this, it's barely metal at all and very.. like, fluffy sounding, I don't know haha
