This is not better that red, sorry. The Sweetest Curse is a crappy opener and this has non-songs like O'er Hell and Hide. Red just rips start to finish.

sweetest curse is really good though

The abrasive gutteral vocals coming in after the sweet album intro ruin it for me. It's a bad transition. Yeah, there is some good guitar work later in the song. This is Baroness though, where isn't there some tasty dual leads?
I obviously dig the album quite a bit, it just isn't as complete or consistent as Red.

Yup completely true, although red also has some questionable awkward transitions and limp dicked buildups that go nowhere

Swollen And Halo is so good. Not sure whether I'll prefer this or Red yet, I'd give it to Red right now but this needs further attention first.

Red is more subtle sometimes but both are great records

The slightly odd thing about Red/Blue is if I didn't know otherwise I'd say Blue was the debut. Red is focused, refined & consistent whereas this is a little rougher around the edges but occasionally superb & has ambition (not that Red didn't).

Ran into John Baizley last week while I was drunk as fuck. I leaned into his ear and whispered "...John Baizley" and walked away laughing to myself
