best AFI maybe tbh
and it's wild, i super got into these guys around when this album came out. I liked Miss Murder and Girl's Not Grey, then I saw a commercial for this album (commercials for albums lol) and heard Medicate. then I slowly but surely listened to everything these guys had and they became my favorite band.

when getting into them I knew that this album wasn't well liked but Medicate, Beautiful Thieves, and End Transmission ended up constantly being in my rotation. I eventually just started to love it all with the exceptions being Cold Hands and It Was Mine but now those 2 are easy top 6 songs on here. Also Darling I Want To Destroy You was not on youtube for the longest time so i had to really on shitty live versions. good times discovering AFI.

here's a shitty cover of Beautiful Thieves that if i have to hear, so do you.

some of the vocal inflections are overkill in some spots.
they start to sound a little gimmicky/self-parody and detract from the great instrumentation.

eh that's just davey. i can see how it could be annoying to some, but if you've heard their other albums, you know that's just how he does things.

Dude, the bonus songs freaking KILL. They should have tailored the entire album around the sound of those tracks.

This is the best AFI album and I’m so sad this has been such an underrated record. I loved it the moment it came out. I remember them bringing fans in to do the group vocals. So cool.

Yeah, Fade...it is cool. Not sure why, but the first song came up randomly earlier this week and I decided to stop the shuffle and listen to the album. Sooooooo much better than I remember. Probably listened to this about six or seven times this week.

Unfortunately I think it had a lot to do with them shedding their hot topic look/branding from DU and STS. Band came back polished, slightly more straightforward and clean cut and people dismissed them and hopped onto the next trend.
But yeah, this album has only grown on me over the years, but I enjoyed it from the get-go. I think it’s tragic that where we used to play, too late for gods, breathing towers and we’ve got the knives were relinquished and made b-sides... would have been prime cuts.

Pretty sure that’s why, Feather.
They were tired of the Hot Topic shit and wanted to make a more alternative record, and I think it worked in almost every way.
