Gotta agree with Ars. Every early album has some strong gems (undeniably) but imo this is their first great -album-

Help and hard days night are both close to this imo but I've also never thought this was quite as good as the albums that follow it

This is their best for me. They were at their peak of songwriting and melody here, even if the later stuff is more diverse and interesting.

About 6th best for me probably

I also think this is their most consistent. Every one after this has at least one distinctly weaker song - not so with this. If you put a gun to my head and demanded I 5 a Beatles album this would easily be my choice.

Good point I would say this is one of their more consistent albums but it lacks the variety and highs that the later albums do imo. Every song is good/great but I'm not sure any of it would even crack my top 25 Beatles songs

This was my gateway to the Beatles. I remember having it on repeat for two weeks, thinking, "there's no way they can top this," but then they did, multiple times over with each album.

It's just not possible.

I'm Looking Through You is really about losing interest in this album

Album Rating: 3.2
can't stop that sneaking feeling that all Paul's songs on this album are actually quite shit, give or take a Drive My Car
peak Lennon tho

Rowan that rating stings but your Revolver rating makes up for it ;]
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.2
yeah Revolver and Abbey Road are the clear winners :D
the former is the only time in their discography the three songwriters are all on the same quality level and working together; it's absolutely thrilling. Lennon is the standout on here and Harrison takes Abbey Road by fucking miles
