Don't add enough? I'm not one to challenge opinions but I must say that that's pretty damn ignorant, considering his vocals are practically the driving force behind the band.
One of Converge's main appeals is the intensity of their music. Even when they're not going all out, the music practically bleeds intensity. Listen to In Harm's Way. It's not necessarily brutal, but you feel like it could explode at any second.
Jacob Bannon's screams are the epitome of intensity. How can that not add anything to the music of a band who's main goal is to be as intense, technical, and emotional as possible? I just don't get your argument at all.

It's not their defining album thats why. It's standard post-hardcore. =/
And the vocals, to me, show no variation. It's just full on instensity...on and on and on. I love the title track, because its one of their few tracks where they show they can use some form of restraint.

Captain North, I completely understand what you mean concerning the vocals on this album. All I can say is listen to this more, cause it took a long time for me to start enjoying this.

ohhh... still, he's dead wrong. Theres plenty of variation. Incredibly high, piercing screams, throaty screams, and strange yells. Even some clean vocals here and there.

Thanks channing. You make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Also, I don't see how vocals that are lower in the mix than the other instruments could be the driving force of an album...

I'm listening to it now and I'm telling you, the vocals are not as clear as the rest of the music. Sure, it's with sub-woofer, but take away that and the rest of the music sounds tinny. Of course, I'm no doubt making myself to be more of a moron to you guys, but I'll just content myself with the knowledge I'm right and you're wrong, and you'll do the same.

Post-Modernism channing, there is no right.
And thanks, Iluvatar, I know you're not agreeing with me, but that was appreciated anyway (mainly because you weren't flaming me).

I wasn't trying to flame you or anything. I was just trying to understand your point of view on the album, which I do now, thanks to Illuvatars helpful intervention.

Yeah, I meant channing. And I'm aware I'm fairly incompetant at getting my view point across. I walk into arguments without any idea what I'm about to say until I say it.

Is Phoenix in Flames supposed to sound like it was recorded live with terrible equipment?
|
| |
I don't know how it's supposed to sound, but I really couldn't imagine it any other way. After all, it isn't really a coherent song, per say.
