Glad you like it man, it's one of my all time favorites. Gotta love the mandolin in A Desolation song.

i know this says 4.5 on my progmaster account but its between a 3.5 and a 4 on my main one. Its not bad by any means but the bands other work is better

"One of the non-traditional instruments Agalloch has been known to use is the skull of a deer. In the song "The Lodge" John Haughm strikes the deer skull in order to create an unusual clicking sound."

Woah so this just jumped from a 3.5 to a 4.5 in the listen I gave it today. There's so much attention to detail on this album, it's astounding. Always considered this the black sheep of Agalloch's discography but maybe i'm finally growing to fully appreciate it.

Something like that happened to me earlier this year. Simply brilliant. Safe to say, I think, that they will never create something even close to this level of perfection again. They did it with Pale Folklore, then with this, but I don't know about now.

Way to skip their best album

I really like Marrow, it's a solid 4/5 for me. But Ashes and Pale Folklore are both high 4.5s and if I continue to enjoy this as much as I have of late...this is staying a 4.5. I rarely give multiple 4.5s to one band.

Ashes is not their best album, I will defend that until I start ranting like a lunatic.

I honestly don't know how you can listen to both this and Pale Folklore, then go to Ashes and say with such certainty that it is superior.

The past few years i've been leaning on Pale Folklore being their best album, but with the seasons changing and all this fucked up New England sleeting we've been getting up here looks like Agalloch will be the soundtrack to these next few months.
