The best in groovy 80's DM drumming.

Also does anyone do leads like this these days?

Lol, I know. I checked him on metal archives to see the lineup and all that and it said progressive metal/jazz* fusion. Chuck Billy and Devin Townsend and a few others on vocals, idk, should be cool.

James Murphy and Manilla Road can be my non-dm listens for the day.

does Find the Arise sound like it was recorded in a totally different place to anyone else, or do i just have a weird copy? the vox also sound thrashier and a little less guttural. it sticks out like a sore thumb.

This is one of those dm albums I'll probably never get the love for. I guess it was probably a product of its time.

Most things are. Yet Obituary managed to do worse than their peers (Incantation, Immolation or Suffocation) in terms of quality back when death metal was gaining huge popularity. The records of those other bands I mentioned still hold great replay value because of how well executed they are. This is just generic death metal - it's okay, but not much to write home about. Definitely not the album that you'd think of when somebody asks which death metal records blew people's minds in the nineties. I guess these guys weren't exactly pioneers out of the bunch.

The dislike for this album is a product of these shallow and deceitful times.

Either that or we've just been spoilt by better stuff

I mean, if you want to stick to something more basic, without going into the more refined representatives of the subgenre, sure. There's always an audience for simpler music like this, and that's okay.
