I mean in the sense I'm an idiot for never listening to them. This band is my current addiction and I can't get enough of this

Yeah, that's a good suggestion. Black Celebration is my third favorite after this and SOFAD. Music for the Masses is probably the one that's closest to this stylistically though. Not quite as good though.

Got the special edition with the DVD bonus (2.0 PCM and 5.1) today; it sounds awesome.

As full listens I like Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, Playing the Angel and Ultra more than Violator, with Black Celebration being one of my favorite albums period. Some Great Reward is also noteworthy for having Blasphemous Rumours which I often end up considering to be their very best song. Just check them all tbh, there's always at least a gem or two.
Btw every Depeche album has a 5.1 mix, it's definitely stuff worth searching for.

wow for real? I find this extremely satisfying and easy to listen to in one sitting
the break up of slow and fast paced songs keeps the whole album pretty fresh

Hey it's still a hard 4, make no mistake, I love it. But I never considered it to be DM's peak. That said Sweetest Perfection, Halo, Waiting for the Night, Enjoy the Silence and Policy of Truth are all tracks I madly love

I don't know a lot of albums that got a flow comparable to this one imo. And that moment when Waiting for the Night ends and Enjoy the Silence starts is one of my favorite moments in music ever.
