The Summoning is a great song to be fair, was blasting it in the car yesterday and it sounded incredible. I'm definitely not the biggest fan of these guys but must admit this album has its moments for sure. Just don't take it too seriously.

I actually now agree somewhat with the critisicms about the commercial succsess of these guys. It feels so calcuated to break into the mainstream and to a degree corporate. And no im not saying "INDUSTRY PLANTS". Congrats on the band for hitting it big and their succsess and whoever their manager is. It feels like someone somewhere saw an oppurtunity for a new cultural impact pop metal band like early 2000s Slipknot or even cult following like kiss and ran with it.
I dont like this album or band and im happy for those that do. My rating is harsh and driven by personal bias more than anything else.

yeah, musically I don't enjoy this. It sounds unfocused. I don't think the amalgamation of styles works well and the vox are distractingly poor in the way he overdoes everything etc.
but...
absolutely nothing compares to the lyrics, which are quite possibly the most gratingly immature, surface-level bullshit I've ever heard. I'm struggling to remember the specifics (fortunately) but pretty sure there's some cringeworthy over-sexualised creepy nonsense and actual victim blaming involved at one point or another here too. I mean it really doesn't get much worse than this

My .5 is because they’re obviously proficient at their instruments, just writing the worst mix of genres in a blender I’ve heard in years

what demon and botb said, but I have admittedly only heard this album through the bathroom door bc my girlfriend likes singing along in the shower

Damn that must be brutal

Can't imagine listening to someone singing along to those water gargling vocals, although it could easily be an improvement over Vessel.

I remember hearing Jaws 5-6 years ago and thinking how interesting they sounded and hoping they blew up. Guess I shouldn't have jinxed it.

This is kinda growing on me? I know I'm gonna get lynched but the first 6 songs sound absolutely insane through a decent sound system. I can take or leave the vocals, I think he sounds great when he's not being waterboarded. Second half of this album is so-so. Definitely falters after Ascensionism.
