This and Vital Remains - Dechristianize

Nothing quite like that moment "YOU RAPED MAAAARYYYYY" comes bellowing out from the vestibule as I am swiftly escorted out of the church by a handful of ushers with my sweat-stained Burzum shirt on and a portable JBL speaker clipped to my studded belt. "Happy Zombie Jesus day!" I yell out just before the priest says something I can't quite hear that nevertheless inspires gales of laughter from the rows and rows of sheep-filled pews.
See you next year, pithy Christians.

Hating on Christianity is easier than stealing candy from a baby. No repercussions whatsoever.

If you go into a mosque and critique a certain "prophet", I guarantee you won't leave the building unharmed. That's why bands like Behemoth are a bunch of pussies. If they made any-Islam songs, their lives would be in immediate danger.

Anyway, I don't like this album. These guys cannot write about anything else than Christianity and how much they hate it. The music isn't bad, but I enjoy Dawn of Possession and especially Here in After much more. I know I will get backlash for this, but I stand by what I said.

I mean I don't disagree with your first point, or that Behemoth has been cringe in the past decade or so but they are Polish to be fair, and it's not exactly as easy to bash Christianity there as it is in the states. Not nearly as suicidal as criticizing Islam of course, but still.
Also, I see the death metal genre worshipping Satan as 1) Horror movie, spooky ghost story type stuff that just adds to the creepy atmosphere or 2) an expression of rebellion against their own status quo where they live
Also, I say this as a Jew so I get that it would definitely be annoying if my favorite genre was mostly centered around bashing Jews lmfao

I try not to bring my beliefs into music tbh. If it riffs I usually dig it. I try not to pay attention the lyrics as much tbh. I'm a Christian that listens to extreme metal so you just gotta roll with the punches lol. My faith and my music listening are 2 completely separate things. I definitely see where Jurtz is coming from though.

I mean tbh they did move away from the explicit anti-Christian sentiment and moreso towards generalized global nihilism i.e Majesty and Decay as well as Atonement but otherwise that is v much their status quo but (and please don't take this as me trying to come at ya) I'm kind of surprised the antichristian sentiments get your goat as an avid CC fan who write predominantly about pissing in peoples rotting eye sockets lmao
The premise in many a DM band is goofy and edgy, I definitely don't take much moral sentiment outta DM lyrics lol

Albeit I suppose one could bring up the point of self-seriousness which while they seemed to have matured greatly in time, Immo were once maybe a -bit- up their asses about anti-Christian sentiments in a way that imo don't tackle it with too much nuance

Yeah I mean to be fair I can see how gore is different than attacking Christianity, I mean once again I can't say for certain how I would feel if the entire death metal genre (my favorite genre) spent most of their time bashing Jews
But as stated before, I view it more about being 1 of 2 things (depending on the band) - 1, it's either to be spooky or scary like some B-horror movie or 2, it's just rebellion against the dominating religion/authority to whatever country said band is in

I'm positively surprised by the nuanced and understanding responses. I appreciate that. I also recognize that I'm being a bit of a hypocrite, because I don't usually have a problem with lyrics about religion, gore, torture etc. For me the difference is how serious Immolation was/is about their anti-Christian sentiment. The problem with Christianity in my opinion is not the faith itself, i.e. Jesus and God. It's about the organized religion aspect and people that profit off of gullible people. There's so many preachers that get obscenely rich by taking advantage of people's faith. A great example of that is Kenneth Copeland. Christians are warned in the bible about people like him. I was raised in a Christian household, but the message of my family was primarily love and I think in that way it can be a positive thing. A lot of people have made it through dark times thanks to their faith and I respect that. Saying that Maria was "raped, over and over" is just wrong and it aggravates me, even though I don't view myself as a Christian. Like I said, the music itself isn't bad, but the above ruins the enjoyment of it for me.

Hmm fair point
IG I came at it from a staunchly opposite viewpoint for -some- time (one of my closest friends now is a v Christian dude and I think that sorta helped turn me over) to such a degree that stuff like this while for sure a bit goofily overblown did seem kinda fairly aimed to me at a time. Thankfully I've managed to mature past that phase even if I have a big problem with the organization of the catholic church (PA in particular was part of a MASSIVE pedophile ring bust in which there were like, 50k unreported cases of either molestation or at least sexual harassment spanning over the last 60 years).
I def think it might still be worth checking the albums I mentioned earlier since they veered away from b-lining it for Christians

I also think it's worth pointing out the Immo guys are super chill. They're always great to chat and joke around with. I don't think they take themselves as seriously as you may think. They're friendly New Yorkers who love heavy music. Just some food for thought.

As I have stated in other occasions I'm one of those fellas who judge the the art separated from the artist views on topics such as religion, politics, etc... I can get that in this case things are different, since the lyrics are blatantly anti-christian, but nobody forces you to listen to this so...
Anyway, as an agnostic (who was raised in a very catholic home) I find most devil/anti-christian lyrics from kind of cringe/dumb to laughable. I prefer religions being critiziced from a moral/philosophical/skeptical pov. There are many things that I find very wrong or completely illogical inside the christian dogma and morals and I would like more bands to take more ellaborated/intelligent/deep lyrical routes than praising satan, debauchery, gore, etc
That being said I don't consider this album to be cringy lyrics wise. They are definitely atheist in nature and not cringe satanism. Not the best lyrics ever but they pair like a glove with the music, which is still my Top 3 death metal albums ever btw.
@Rowhaus exactly, they are a bunch of cool dudes, unlike those cringy satanists who take themselves so seriously
