At least we can all agree April Ethereal is number 1.

I just realised my earlier agreement about Hessian Peel made no sense, read incorrectly, in fact it's like I'd completely made up what was actually happening. Heir Apparent IS the best here & it would be in my top 15.
I'm dense.

Swap 2/3 and that would pretty much be my ranking

Porcelain sticks out like a sore thumb in the Opeth discography, the closest to a kinda radio song they've ever done.

Swap the top 2 & Hex > Coil. That's how I have it. Good rating.

Slither rocks tho, Porcelain is kinda awkward in spots.

Yeah I didn't mean that it's worse, just that it's closer to a radio song

Looking back we should've seen the 70's prog rock shift coming given some of the elements here eh?

Yep, this is almost half way to prog-rock Opeth. A transitional period but a mightily fine one.

We had a major hint with Damnation. Oh Mikael has an unfortunate need to prog, we thought.

Album Rating: 4.0
Damnation was less overtly throwback prog than some of the moments here and especially their most recent three LPs. More natural and stuff.

Damnation's kind of a weird album as far as the "prog" tag. Unlike the new albums, which are blatant in their influences from that genre, Damnation is much more in Opeth's signature style by contrast. Basically, it's as if you took all of Opeth's softer moments in their death metal output and made an album out of that
