Have you ever stood on the edge of a canyon, overlooking a bright blue river surrounded by a luscious green forest as you gazed into a sunset of unparalelled beauty directly above the colorful horizon, all the while playing Treefingers? I have not, but someday I would like to experience that. And then, only then, I can say without a doubt in my mind, that Treefingers isn't filler. Only then!

No! There was no emphasis on the but. I was emphasizing the two following, so putting "but" in italics would be incorrect, as that word was not supposed to be read dramatically unlike "only then" was supposed to be.
