i dunno, it feels....plasticky/lacking in punch? Plus all of Deftones' albums are shittily mastered with maximum loudness.

White Pony is indeed better than this though

SNW is the worst when it comes to shitty mastering...Bothers me every time even though I friggin love the songs on that album.

Album rules, but I agree with jefflebowski. There's very little punch/dynamics on Deftones discography. Every record has guitars that are loud as hell that drown the drums out. I am a drum person. I like beats. That's what I headbang to, dance to, nod my head to, whatever. They need to lower the gain on the guitars a notch and up it on the drums, and master the album with full dynamics. My favorite Deftones is the self-titled but this album has grown on me more each listen and I like it a lot, possibly second best.

I guess. Whatever your preference is. Out of loud vocals, loud bass, loud drums, or loud guitar, I dislike loud guitar the most. I prefer loud drums. Guitar is meant to be icing on the cake, to add flavor, depth and style to the music to me. Not to be out in the front. It's like eating ice cream before meat, potatoes, and bread.

No wonder Chino is screaming. He's trying to get past the guitar. And you know what? He still doesn't make it.

Loud anything is annoying. Loud guitars are really annoying though and I 100% agree with your avatar, Valerius

White Pony had a pretty thin guitar sound.

The drums on White Pony were like some of the best I've ever heard in metal/rock in terms of sound and mix

That's what I mean, I loved how thin the guitar was on Pony. Not that I dislike the tone they have here though. Still think SNW and Adrenaline had the best bass sounds.
