This, Alligator and Boxer are tied for first for me with this one maybe just slightly edging it. There is an underlying uneasy tension just waiting to explode that tips this one for me. Songs like Afraid of Everyone, Conversation 16 and Terrible Love are extremely dark but brilliant! It is also the first album I ever listened to and it came out at a pretty dark period in my life so my bond with it was pretty much solidified then. Thank goodness that time of my life is behind me though.

Like taking a look at this album: Terrible Love, Sorrow, Afraid of Everyone, Bloodbuzz Ohio, Lemonworld, Conversation 16, England, and Vanderlyle are all better than Apartment Story
Possibly even Runaway and Little Faith
Edit: Song is still a 4.5 so I guess it doesn't matter much

Honestly I've stopped trying to decided which National songs are better than others, all I know is that the full experience of this album touches me more than any of their others (though Boxer comes close).

and i mean yeah Lemonworld is cute and all, and it's uniquely verbose for Berninger, but Apartment Story is like... THE song. It's so universal while being so concise. And at risk of sounding cliche, it kind of ROCKS, yknow? hahaha i love this band
