This and Nespithe are like the peak of this unintelligible brutal techy death stuff. Demilich was insane when I first heard them years ago.

^ Have you listened to Gorguts yet? If you like the more dissonant side of tech death, I'd suggest giving Obscura or From Wisdom to Hate a shot

That's been on my short list for a bit but i haven't found it in me to fully take the dive yet. mostly because this side of the genre is very very close to sensory overload.

I wouldn’t call this or Demilich unintelligible at all. “Riff salad” as someone on here called it before I think is a good label lol

"unintelligible" was more aimed at the vocals tbh. can't really "parse" a word being said, but it's still pretty damn good for what it is.

Nope, "riff salad" generally describes disjointed prog riffs that don't have much direction at all. This and Nespithe are very focused and well-constructed, despite their technicality

Good point. This is one of those albums that is so fucking crazy yet at the same time so fucking well structured that I just sit and smile like a maniac while listening

it really is well-structured. one of the few albums of its kind that is over soon enough for me to not wonder when the hell it's going to be over halfway through.

I kinda got that feeling about... 7 songs into that Sanguisugabogg. Very clearly a "for the hardcore fans of the genre" album.

Blood Incantation's also a good pick if you want a modern take on short'n'sweet tech/prog-death records

it's really weird because I love longer albums but when i see a bdm/tech style thing break 40 minutes i'm like "oh god how long till I start wanting to hit the pause buttom" bc they often wind up not having a ton of variety for me. ingested had a good one mostly broken up by the beautiful instrumental interlude in the middle in 2015.

i'll have to jam blood incantation.

Starspawn and Hidden History are only 35 and 36 minutes respectively, and they do nothing but kick ass during those runtimes :]

And I completely relate to what you're saying about runtimes in general. When it comes to tech-death or tech-y prog metal, it's kinda rare for me to enjoy a 50+ minute album in those styles, even as a big prog fan in general. I would prefer to have a short tracklist with one or two epics, over a 10-song tracklist where every song is 6-8 minutes

With exceptions of course. When it comes to Gorguts, Obscura and Colored Sands are both 60+ minutes and I still love them
