"Don't expect like some high fantasy concept stuff in the vein of Still Life or anything like that, but they're definitely his most personal and touching lyrics he's ever done. It'll give you a new perspective on the record."
akerfeldt has said that the lyrics in burden and hessian peel are tied together and they're about an ex who committed suicide

@Mayhem
Still Life is my no.1. First 4 are now my favourite, best era of Opeth.
I actually only discovered these guys early this year (Feb, I think) but loved most of their stuff so I changed my username to honour them, also I sound more metal now :-). This is the first year I've predominantly listened to metal, so thought it was fitting as Opeth were a major part in the change in direction.

Add in Ghost Reveries with that and I completely agree.

Yeah, I have BWP & GR just after as like a joint 5/6th sort of thing.

Saw them on this tour, was pretty great.

BWP and GR are tied for me too
Yah I saw them last spring in Philly with Gojira, Devin Townsend, Mastodon etc
It was cool.
Also saw them for their Deliverance/Damnation tour and Ghost Reveries tour.
Also cool.

BWP and GR are both somewhat overrated. So is Still Life. First 3 are the best.

Orchid is a bit all over the place tbh, each song feels like it's 3 different tracks. Still great but way more unorganized than their later shit.
MAYH is perfect, though

Also Morningrise is fucking awesome, agreed but Still Life is better

Orchid is less formally cohesive than their later work, perhaps, but it still has an untouchable atmosphere that elevates it above most of their work. Also, it showcases Ã…kerfeldt's all-time best vocal performance.

Morningrise is easily their best album. There's not even competition for me.

That's fair, the album rules hard m/

I can't even start to try understanding how anyone would rank Orchid near the four albums that came after, but fair enough. It has a unique atmosphere, I'll give it that.
