I think JFAC's biggest strength on this album is keeping tracks below 5 minutes. Tech death tracks that just go on and on is what causes me ear fatigue within this genre.

and yet every single track sounds as meaningless as the one before

Nothing against this. It’s clearly good but I just can’t find any sort of enjoyable in this type of music. They’re definitely talented. The drumming is insane.

@splinter Meaningless or too similar? Because I can agree that tech death suffers from being so intricate and fast that songs start to meld together. That's why groove is such a big deal in what I listen to. I need some sort of hook that I can relate back to as, "oh yeah it's that song." Can't do that with tech death
I'm also an amateur when it comes to music so maybe this all sounds stupid.

Surprised to see the "technical death metal" label being tossed around. I feel like this has technical flair, but I still wouldn't call it technical dm. Album is also the perfect length for this style. It doesn't overstay its welcome and checks all the right boxes.

@Christbait
I guess too similar. But this is usually not my problem with Tech Death, there are bands like Obscura, Archspire, First Fragment, Rivers of Nihil, Revocation, Allegaeon, Fallujah and especially Gorod where I don't have these problems. Hell, one of my all time favorite albums is Stare into Death and this is basically 1 hour of the same but it's just fucking amazing in any way.
"I need some sort of hook that I can relate back to as, "oh yeah it's that song." Can't do that with tech death"
Try "Damnum" by Allegaeon, if you don't mind some cleans here and there. They have epic hooks in my opinion.

I don't know what else you'd call it. Sounds like prog tech death in the vein of stuff like beyond creation, gorod, spawn of possession, obscura

I guess it does sound a bit like Beyond Creation. I'm probably just so used to technical dm being hyper-compressed wankery I'd forgotten it can sound good if done right.

It's def tech death. It's got a lot of mid tempo stuff which makes it deceiving imo

Sludgy, Proggy, intense and one hell of a ride. I'm not surprised that Job For A Cowboy is becoming more popular; their discography is too damn awesome to not be recognized.

The midtempo pivots are sort of what's keeping me here. tech-death is better when it's used to create a feeling that's more distinct.

"Seems like a huge problem so far is the guitar is just there not doing anything relatable to the rest of the band."
Tried to see where this is coming from but I just don't hear it at all. It all sounds pretty cohesive to me.

I can't imagine what this sounds like to him for him to say that.
Just gave Antithesis of Light a 4.5 though so he's alright in my book XD

I'm not sure of the actual numbers but I would guess their peak popularity was around doom/genesis when they blew up like crazy

My brother in Christ it’s an old copypasta

Dang... well, that copypasta is less ridiculous than some of the takes I've seen in here
