everybody’s laaauughing, bodies laaaauuuughing
I think Cutouts will be their best album yet, The Slip > No Words > Bodies Laughing is an amazing run

This is very much a Kid A/Amnesiac situation, and I don't mean that as in "the offcuts" because I never viewed Amnesiac like that. A fantastic collection of songs they've been fine tuning for a few years that wouldn't otherwise have fit on WoE.

Amnesiac is offcuts

I guess it depends on your definition. My view of Amnesiac is that it's made up of songs that wouldn't have fit on Kid A, which seems to make sense as it's very inconsistent, some of the tracks are Kid A quality and some aren't and none of them would have really fit on Kid A.

in this case, the Amnesiac side wins - I enjoy Cutouts more, this album still seems like it meanders way too much and could do with some minutes shaved off
The second half of Cutouts is seriously strong stuff

The studio version of Just Eyes and Mouth is amazing, I'm so glad they did it justice.

Fav songs on first listen I think are Instant Psalm, Colours Fly, Eyes & Mouth, and Tiptoe.
I like Cutouts around the same as this, probably a bit more. I appreciate it having more variety and memorability. The debut by far my fav.
They still don't seem too concerned with track list order and just wrote a ton of songs during Covid I assume, as some of these were played live in 2022.

I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like a case could be made for both this and Cutouts being on the same level as Radiohead's latter day output. This is a solid 4.5 for me and I'm really impressed with Cutouts as well. If I took the best from both, it'd be a top 5 Radiohead LP. The material dropping under "The Smile" bothered me at first, but not so much anymore. As long as their stuff keeps sounding this good I'm on board.

I think The Smile has released winner after winner after winner. Their debut is superb, this is beautiful and solid, and their new record is even better than this. Based off the ratings here, I wish the band received a bit more love because yeah their stuff is on par with Radiohead imo. Absolutely stunning work. As of right now I rate them: Light Attracts > Cutouts > Wall of Eyes, but we’ll see if repeated listens boost new record to upper echelon /hype

I think offcuts is nowhere near as good as this. Clearly ideas and tunes that were not fit enough to sit alongside this beauty.

Sow, I’m definitely going to give it time, there’s absolutely no way I’m forming a concrete opinion of it after a brief listen.

In the same sense I can't concretely say it's amazing, but two spins in, I loved it. Wall of Eyes started as a 3.5 and grew to a borderline AOTY candidate.
