I think this will settle down nicely as a firm-ish 2.3/4…
I’m trying to give this the benefit of the doubt

Seeing so many people specifically praise the physical release of this album and any comment I've made along the lines of "Idk isn't it weird and terrible that they cut a song from the standard edition and there's no mention of it anywhere and it's weirdly missing from the liner notes of the CD and there's been no mention of that and even the 150$ version only has it on a separate 10" making trying to listen through the full album on vinyl needlessly convoluted" are just completely ignored.
Idk man I admit to fanboying for these guys but a certain level of calling shit gold is sad to see, and we'll probably never see an explanation for any of that shit and on top of that they're receiving specific feedback that this was a good move on their part. I just want to know whyyyyyyy who thought this was a good idea and why would any sane person think it's cool??
Anyway dope album still been heavily in my rotation and still love it.

this band scratches that post-metal itch for me better than a lot of others so I'm happy. still need to finish cult of luna's discog but theyre up there

Cult of Luna are kings of post-metal in my opinion. I love Neurosis too and admire their work but the news of Scott Kelly is sickening. Of course I'll still love the music and listen but sucks it's now tainted. Same with Daughters

Hold on what happened with Scott Kelly?
Agreed though fuck Alexis Marshall

You didn't hear the Neurosis news? Scott Kelly abused the shit out of his wife and kids. It was huge when it broke.

Yeah, it's pretty beyond fucked up! Like I said, I won't stop listening to the music as I still love both bands works but it sucks having merch from em both thinking I supported two monsters...granted I had no clue. Plus there's probably more I'm unknowingly supporting as well.

Hmm, hadn't actually heard precisely what the issue was, just that he was a 'bad man'. That's fucked up. I was always going to become aware at some point, I guess that today is today.
Either way, I love Neurosis. Weirdly, although their music means a lot to me, I feel detached from the personal side of their music to a large extent. 'Faceless' and all that. Helps in the art vs artist side of things on these circumstances.
perhaps I won't care much for 'I Can See You' anymore, because who gives af how Scott feels about his sister after this, but a lot of their lyrics aren't a draw, or a huge part of their sound regardless. TEOES has grown off me a tad, so maybe the personal impact won't be huge.
idk, there are bands / artists where this would've had a greater impact on how I viewed their music, I reckon (that's what I'll keep telling myself for the time being).

The Scott kelly thing was fucking huge. Cult of Luna are the kings of Post-Metal agreed Fear. They are unstoppable and insanely consistent. Amenra is also at the top but i feel they are in their sort of own niche.

It was really heavy domestic violence stuff. It hit everyone in Absent in Body out of the blue and they where taken by such a suprise they had to basically go radio silent to work everything out.

yeah if I remember too Scott's wife didn't want it to go public either. The band members had no clue either about it. Shit was vile! As for Amenra I agree as well. To me the titans were always Isis, Neurosis, and Cult with cult being the top kings imo especially with their trajectory as of late still being top-tier where Isis split up and Neurosis (even prior to Kelly's news) were nowhere near their prime anymore. Cult somehow feels like they're still making some of their best music to date. Amenra is up there as well though with The Ocean/Rosetta/Pelican in the tier just below the titans.

What a massive piece of shit, I mean without the details I admittedly don't wish to seek out (in case my own presumed fortitude is somehow tested), hopefully I can just assume this and move on.
I think this shows just how detached from the personal side I really am. Literally one of the fave all-time bands and I'm only just hearing about the nature of what happened.
I only hear about stuff like this on here really and I'd purposefully avoided any of the site's news articles relating to Scott / Neurosis once I'd heard something had happened (knew this was an ultimately futile endeavour to remain ignorant and here we are, eventually).

Cult of Luna is just absurd at this point. Although Long road was a bit of a let down but following up A Dawn to fear was always going to be tough. Post metal became my faviourite genre of music tbh. For me its the most expressive genre of metal in terms of emotion. Am a bit of a fanboy of the Ocean as it was a gateway into the genre
|

hmmmm
S: ISIS
A+: Neurosis
A: Cult of Luna
B: Pelican, Rosetta, Pax Cecilia, Amenra
C: The Ocean
is tough at the top. Cult of Luna are gradually running out of places to go; both they and Neurosis highlight the value of ISIS' shorter discog if anything. technicuhlly speaking, neither of the best two albums in the genre come from post-metal bands, but that top 3 really do be the top 3

I feel ya, man. As someone who adores Daughters, it's painful to know what a monster Alexis is. Doesn't hurt my taste in the music, lyrics anything in a sense but sucks being a fan now in a way. It's always shitty when the band members face backlash when they aren't involved because most will avoid buying merch, seeing them live, etc (granted both groups are obviously done). I guess in a way though I'm sadly used to pieces of shit in metal given I like black metal and we know a lot history with members in that lol.

I always viewes the Ocean as more prog with post-metal tendencies tbh. I have to agree with you Johnny im really unsure where Cult of Luna can go from here. I think that was made sort of clear with Long Road. Which is still a great record but it was sort of more of the same.
