Definitely a grower. Spun this at work all day yesterday and it just kept getting better and better.
Void Surfacing might be my new fav song by these guys in general

"I miss metal (that's not osdm or lofi black etc) with gritty production. Would love to hear an alternate take on this album where they actually sound like a band in a room" - MiloRuggles
I just finished Pulsations from the Black Orb by Astriferous. It scratches a bit of that less polished itch while still sounding great and being nice and riff heavy. It's more traditional death metal in the vein of WORM or Tomb Mold, but I still really enjoyed it.

Heh I don't even mind the whining so much. Whiney bullshit is par for the course for this kind of music. Some do it better than others. I just didn't hear anything in this album that: a) I haven't heard before, b) that I haven't heard done better elsewhere, or c) that gives me any reason to return to it.

Kinda find it sad that a band can pour their heart out and let themselves be vulnerable just for hordes of people to dismiss it as "whiney bullshit" on the spot but that's just me. You do you.

Angsty bullshit. Whatever. Like I said, it's not the reason I'm not as into this as most people here

Wasn't trying to say it was just making a general statement lol. Feel free to drop recs on stuff that does this better because I'm always on the hunt for stuff like this

Well I think most metalcore is trash music for trash people, and I'm only newly trash, so I don't know if I'm qualified to be making recs, but besides the grittier 90s-00s stuff like Converge, Zao, Sikth, Envy, etc, some of the metalcore bands that keep me coming back are Wrvth, Noise Trail Immersion, Hypno5e, Rolo Tomassi, and Corelia.

Rolo Tomassi is awesome, and Hypno5e is in my backlog. Fair enough lmao

Idk if I'd classify SikTh as gritty

Yeah doesn't really feel right, but they are from that time period so that's sort of why I included them along with the others

Venin I think you'll appreciate Hypno5e's atmosphere, although I'd classify them more as post-metal than metalcore

I go back and forth on "Hypnose" and "Hypno-five". No idea which is correct lol but both exist simultaneously in my head
