Okay, I gave this another listen because upon further contemplation, I decided I must have been batshit crazy to like this as much as I did.
But, nope, living in a town uncannily similar to the town explored here, this record packs a hell of a wallop.
The train symbolizing death, and all of the ways that idea is explored, is truly brilliant.

"And so suddenly, too. This came out just 2 weeks under a year from their previous album"
I read somewhere they are already working on new material.

@sowing - this is why we're kindred Sputters...I think I entirely agree with your ranking of their discog you did recently but I bet you're even finding yourself tickled by some Battle Born/Day and Age what have you jams - I think we are both fading in a parallel fashion into appreciating pop rock that we used to run from while still loving our Brand New, Radiohead, and even more opaque tendencies *cheers to bein cool dad rockers*

"This does pseudo-Springsteen better than Gaslight Anthem ever has"
All the music that band had ever released should be wiped off the face of the planet

It might be a minor detail, but I'm glad they didn't place an interview clip at the intro of Terrible Thing. Would have felt like an insult to the song's content.

"I just realized how hard the bassist is going in the "In the Car Outside" outro lmao"
It's literally just a major scale with even eighth notes
