There's plenty of valid criticisms to make of her but people harassed her for her body image, Mac Miller's death, and speculated endlessly about pretty much every relationship she's been in. Not to mention, the manchester bombing and working with Dan Schneider and getting groped at Aretha Franklin's funeral

I view it as less being about her romance with Ethan and more about the speculation with Ethan being the straw that broke the camel's back
Ariana seems like a nightmare to have a personal relationship with, but something that I find refreshing about her is that the messiness is upfront and center. She never portends to be THE everywoman, she's out here making songs like Pete Davidson like three months into their relationship and then, not even months later, ending an album that mourns the death of her longterm ex, her relationship with her fiance, and learning to accept growth and independence with "break up with ur girlfriend". There's so much whiplash, but it feels honest in a way that other popstars like Beyonce and Taylor -who DO try so hard to not show any cracks in the armor- can only gesture to
