Daydreaming is a great example how a lot of the album is just like... lethargic covers of great songs they already released on other albums. Clumping the worst offenders for that together did little to help elevate them individually.
TKOL was a natural evolution for the band. AMSP was a safe crowd pleaser that took exactly zero risks.

Yeah I agree honestly. Doesn't help that the rehash of True Love Waits is worse than the original.

ASMP "True Love Waits" is lovely but yeah the live acoustic version is superior

daydreaming
sigh
it's like a top 10 radiohead song for me

I wonder if the mixed reception for TKOL and the contrast between ANIMA and AMSP is any sort of indicator of Radioheads trajectory or if they just wanted to get all these old tracks off the back burner and it's just a coincidence. It kind of felt a bit like they reeled in the weirdness and took a couple steps back for the sake of reception and maybe Yorke decided to divert that more experimental energy to his solo output. Or they decided that as a band. It would be a bit of a sell out if that was the case but Radiohead is so big it's really the major moneymaker, especially for the other dudes. I guess the next album will be telling.

I kinda agree Pots but at the same time, Radiohead is such a well established and famous band that they probably don’t feel the need to pander all that much. And a lot of their experimental stuff is regarded as some of their best work, so they wouldn’t necessarily have a better received album by toning down the experimental elements.
But yeah we should probably go back to talking about Phoebe now lol

I'll just see myself out in that case ;)

it’s crazy how the guy who reviewed amsp on here was so right about the tracklist, I wonder what he’s up to right now 🤔
anyway I liked a couple songs here ngl so a 2.5 is warranted, if I were staff it would be a 2.3 but alas

true love waits is the most overrated radiohead song. period. tbh tho i don't really see the appeal for identikit and decks dark but idk maybe i have to revisit them. i've heard that album like 5 times but i still forget most of it, it's baffling.

I hear he only wears Gucci, Louis, Fendi, or Prada

Identikit and decks dark clicked for me independent of the album over time. I had them on a burnt mixed CD for my car when they came out as they were the two tracks I gravitated to the most and one day I just kinda realized that identikit in particular was epic af on a drive home from work.
