Man this is giving me the musical equivalent of a confused boner... but I kind of want to like this

anyone still digging this should go check seiko oomori's kusokawa party for a far better pop/metal fusion (though much less novelty) with stellar lyricism and stronger hooks

I think I still need to be sold the idea of kawaii pop metal to begin with.

lol listen to babymetal or passcode if you want kawaii pop metal this is plastic posercore and kusokawa is a loosely feminist middle finger

I'll give the Seiko a go at least. Need to really open up to Japanese music tbh. Spent too many years avoiding it cos of stereotypes

ah lol fair, in that case start with Shiina Ringo's first 3 (all wholesale bangers) - Seiko riffs of jpop tropes much more, and you kinda have to have an ear for how she makes them her own to totally 'get' it, if that figures?

I remember thinking I’d like Shiina Ringo more if the production wasn’t so err... ‘maximalist’. Having said that I may be mixing her stuff up with something else... have her highest rated albums (here) at 3/5, so not too shabby.

Jeez, her highest rated album is 4.3 at 200+ votes? time to enter the rabbit hole

I mean Shouso Strip is brickwalled to oblivion but I wouldn't call the rest of her production jobs maximalist. if anything, Kalk Samen (her most ambitious album) has the most pared back production

I wonder if her future music will sound even remotely similar now that Titanic Sinclair is out of the picture. It'll be very telling, as to the driving force of the creativity.
