they're very clearly self-aware I think, they just don't take themselves that seriously or give a shit, obviously there is a level of humour here that is intentional but humour doesn't necessarily equal irony, even if sometimes there is a hint of that (like once again they obviously know how stupid the opening to money machine sounds)

"I think it's possible to enjoy scene, edm, dubstep, and pop punk, and acknowledge that this is garbage. "

Yeah of course, but it's probably easier for someone who is into all those things to appreciate this in a genuine way

"i changed my rating of this album from a 1.5 to a 1 once i realized it wasnt meant to be a shitpost and it was meant to be "Art""

because anything that isn't meant to be a joke is meant to be a very serious artistic statement and there's no in between, solid logic

well yeah of course but like i said, if their humour about this isn't meant to be ironic then i don't personally understand what it is meant to be

I'm having a hard time even recalling any instances of humour on this outside of money machine rn

I suppose the end of 800db cloud is clearly meant to be humourous because of the very obviously incompetent unclean vocals but I'd say that's another rare instance on this album where irony is actually used

I think any other instances of humour on here like stupid horse are just in the name of dumb fun

on another note the stupid horse remix is disappointingly bad

well thats just the thing, shit like PC Music, much like sub genres like vaporwave, is inherently ironic. that's like an intrinsic aspect of the entire concept. so to hear that something that emulates shit like that in such a bold statement is not ironic is just straight up discombobulating. i just assumed.

I think both PC Music and vaporwave have moved past the whole ironic/post-ironic shit in the last few years (especially vaporwave, PC Music too but that shit's basically dead at this point, at least the actual label and not the scene it created)

A band I like that is crass and trite and loud and stupid and throwing together shit

dunno about that. pc music as a scene seems to be more prevalent than vaporwave these days. and i don't agree about vaporwave moving past the ironic overtones. pc music maybe, but i think it was less that the 'style' moved past the ironic overtones and more that the now prevalent outsiders who started to emulate it either didn't get the memo or just decided to strip that component away while the original label faded into obscurity. which is ironic in and of itself.

and without the ironic overtones in regards to consumerism etc the idea of pc music is entirely compromised/degraded imo. same with vaporwave.

Even the originators of PC Music seemed to completely rid of the irony at this point, look at Hannah Diamond's last album for example.

Can't say I agree with what you said about vaporwave at all, as someone who pays somewhat close attention to the scene and what releases get attention it's a lot more about building atmosphere and taking you somewhere else at this point, that community's want to criticise consumerism in some weird abstract way pretty much evaporated years ago.

if you say so. i don't pay super close attention to vaporwave because it's mostly shit so i'll take your word for it.

as for hannah diamond maybe thats why her new album is so terrible. pc music without the consumerist irony is possibly the most sell-out concept i've ever heard of which is again, fantastically ironic in a different way.

vaporwave has really evolved in the last few years. Fuck i mean look at ESPRIT who is now making synthpop with 311's nick hexum under his real name George Clanton.

vaporwave didn't evolve into synthpop tho lol clanton just started making synthpop/chillwave instead

lol well i'd happily check urs out with an open mind

also vaporwave without those particular stylistic and conceptual elements might as well just be chillwave in a lot of instances am i wrong?
