I find the whole genre/scene sounds a bit like Slint/Mogwai whenever it gets quieter
Maybe my impression because I was listening to 'Western' at the time

"slint/ mogwai"
oh so just slint? I guess
|
| |
The opener is one of the most sterile songs though?? Would chop that and Of Schlagenheim in an instant
And pre-cinema Mogwai is basically Slint played by people who enjoyed the Smashing Pumpkins or lived through most of the 90s or whatever, so that figures

Black Country are both better and worse than this because they have more of a sense of humour
|
| |
Black Country are worse because they make less memorable music and are a fucked slint cover band
|
| |
yeah but Slint covers + frozen klezmer are still better than half the ideas here it is a tough market
|
| |
It's very difficult to find the appropriate balance of weird in your post-everything tunes
|
| |
all comes down to the performance though

new squid is better than this
|
| |
It is probably consistent but that consistency showed me that I want something more from them.

'The opener is one of the most sterile songs though?? Would chop that and Of Schlagenheim in an instant'
sort of in agreement on 'Of Schlageheim' but I feel the opener and closer are quite easily the best two tracks on this
after that I like 'Western' a lot, plus it's the most different to the rest, and 'Near DT, MI'

band is tryhard soulless britschool wank that gets called experimental for doing the bare minimum

"black country sounds nothing like slint ffs"
I'll mock anyone who calls them a slint rip-off, but this is obviously not true.
