....fuck
alright where to start
whole album feels far too disjointed in the beginning especially but idk if that actually is going to bother me in the long run
this album is far too subdued. choruses that keep it too simple and the songs feel like they are rushing to get to this point. no big bridges too. davey is just rarely giving us anything HUGE and that's what I want from him/think it would have made this light years better
that being said, ignoring what ISN'T here, what IS here is fucking great. loved all 5 of the tracks I waited for.
On Your Back is urgent, honestly a more interesting Far Too Near especially with that fun as fuck bridge but god, I wish that bridge was just the chorus or at least came back at the end
Back From The Flesh is the most Depeche Mode worship I've ever heard from anything Davey has done. I wish there was something to better transition to the chorus from the verse but I really like them both. cool sample
Death of The Party is something I was seeing people say sounds like a Dreamcar/BA track and I don't hear that at all. weird instrumentation/bridge and I dig it. chorus is cool but I wish it went somewhere but that's just the story of the album
Tied To A Tree is really cool. reminds me of a dark version of I The Mighty's Where You Let It Go. again, i wish it reached some sort of massive climax because out of ALL of these tracks it definitely is begging for it the most but again, still really cool/really enjoyed the atmosphere/delivery. get a crowd of people singing this live and holy fuck I bet it'll be sublime
the one exception to every criticism is No Eyes, this is a perfect AFI song. okay yeah, I could nitpick some things but whatever. easily Davey's best hook on the album. it has a Burials meets DU or even CL feel; the former's tone with the latter's catchiness (like it sounds kinda like it fits on CL but also just reminds me of The Killing Lights). I would love if the whole album was more in line with this. it also has this perfect penultimate sound. one of the definitive post CL AFI tracks or honestly just AFI tracks period.

more interesting than Blood. some of these kinda line up with the vibe of Missing Man/Burials but still feels like it's own thing. again, wish i could appreciate an album atm instead of fixating on 5 songs but i've already replayed all of those quite a bunch.
idk why bands start shortening songs later into their careers as if a 3 minute 30 second average is too much. i feel like there being so much less time for things to grow directly impacts this experience and all of the 4+ minutes still could have used something bigger in there. i feel like that's going to annoy me for the longest time. but again, i like everything i'm hearing. not a single thing i've heard and thought mehhh or even that's fine. it's all really good (barring Looking Tragic but tbh had a lot more fun with it this listen). i guess i just KNOW it can be better. gonna sit with it for a week before i decide on a score/ranking or whatever

Album is great! Probably not as good as Blood for me but I was smiling the whole way through. Hunter is bringing a strong game here.

Couldn't agree more. Also agree with other points that a lot of these songs don't go anywhere, and just feel they could have been better. I hope Death to the Party grows on me, but that metal percussion really grates on my ears. Overall I fully enjoyed the album, though. I was having a great time, and the songs bop. Hunter and Adam really shining here. Oh, and also agree that Davey could have had some bigger moments here, but chose to dial it back.

i feel like i'm gonna burn myself out on this one due to it's length and I really don't want to do that.
I like the percussion choice on Death of The Party. makes it more unique. also loving the bridge there a lot now.
On Your Back actually kinda works as a shorter track despite everything i said before. I feel like it's so urgent that it just is able to fit everything in concisely. still wish it returned to the bridge at the end but it didn't need more length to do that
also Looking Tragic kinda growing on me, idk. i don't think i can justify that it's a good track but for now it's fun lmao

i love that a lot of these tracks are just very different for them and i think they all generally work with maybe a few deductions for execution. this is where i say i can't wait for the follow up for them to perfect on the formula/expand on it but i highly doubt that's what'll happen lol

Dulceria is so good, yikes.

Death Of The Party reminds me of Wild and Dumb Kids. They were all jarring when I first heard them but they all became catchy as fuck for me on repeat listens.
Back From The Flesh is easily one of my favorites. It's so chill and haunting.
No Eyes is just perfect.

Ratings for AFI on Sput became increasingly less as time went on. I wonder if Bodies can buck the trend and have more ratings than Blood did.

Begging For Trouble needs to be longer. One of the best AFI songs to date. Whenever it ends I'm like "aw man". I could think of so many more directions to take that song before it ends. It's so good, but also so rushed. It's like they just want to get to the end of it. Another minute would have made it perfect.
